A complex process takes natural gas from its source in the gasfields to the end user.
This process is:

Gas Treatment and Liquefaction
The
natural gas is piped from the gasfield to a processing plant where it
is cleaned from impurities and turned into a liquid by cooling it to a
temperature of minus 160°C.
This liquid is then stored at this extremely low temperature in specially insulated storage tanks.

Shipping LNG
When LNG is transported by sea it is pumped as a liquid into double-hulled
ships specifically designed to handle the low temperature of LNG.
These carriers are insulated to limit the amount of LNG that evaporates.
LNG Regasification
LNG is stored in insulated onshore tanks. When natural gas is needed,
the LNG is warmed to a point where it reverts to its gaseous state.
