Delivering commercial innovation

South Hook Gas is a UK gas import company which owns and manages all of the regasification capacity as well as System Entry Capacity at the South Hook LNG Terminal at Milford Haven in Wales.

Established in 2004 and based in London, SHG is a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum Gas (70 per cent) and ExxonMobil (30 per cent). Our primary role is to handle LNG cargo deliveries from the Qatargas 2 project in Qatar but we will also seek to maximise the use of the South Hook LNG Terminal capacity.

The UK is rapidly moving from a situation of self-sufficiency in gas to import-dependency as North Sea reserves decline. The starkness of this change can be seen from figures showing that imports accounted for 40 per cent of UK gas consumption in 2008, up from 27 per cent in 2007. By 2015 imports could make up as much as 75 per cent of the total.

LNG will make a big contribution to these import figures, so SHG’s role as importer will be crucial.
